Still doesn't justify it.....someone that has done it before along with the proper tools will complete the job in a few hours. It took me 5 hours to complete my install along with milling my bar end to accept heated grips. All brake line extentions and extended clutch line. I took about 20 smoke brakes and a long lunch break. I have only installed about 6 sets of apes at this time. Now figure a dealer that has 100 times the experience.

I could see 500 give or take but some get quotes for 1200.

 

I put 12 KST Mayhems on my 2015 SGS. I lubed them real good with electrical lube and pushed and pulled, a real pita, but it will go. You don't need longer brake or clutch cables with 12 KST Mayhems you just need to turn the banjo bolt a little on both.

 

I did the bars on my '08 and it was a breeze. When I did my '14 it was a real PIA. I put Wild Ones on my '08 with smooth curves but put LA Choppers Prime Apes on my '14 with the peaks on them. One side had a lot of weld slag or something in the peak. I had to de-pin both bikes and I used "dry" silicone lube on both to avoid the mess of grease, soap or a wet silicone spray. I would still do my future ones rather than paying the extreme amount that the dealers want.

 

I finally got them done. I had to take a break for my wedding and honeymoon, but got them done yesterday afternoon. All it took was more patience. Try try again, and I finally got it. What a PITA!!!

I was worried that the sharp bends inside the corners on my 12"Yaffe bars would rub through the coating on the wires so I heat shrunk my wires then installed them this helped by being stiffer and I was able to push as well as pull with the string.

 

When I did my Yaffe's last year before Sturgis, I got hung up on the peaks as well; but patience and electric lube got them through. Other than that, it wasnt all that bad of an experience.

 

I just redid my 16" LA Choppers Prime Apes a few weeks ago. Took me less than 20 minutes to fish the wires. Most people scoff at the idea of using the CVO throttle harness because it's not a necessity. But the combination of that harness which eliminates the green plug, and the 48" Namz control harnesses that eliminate having to bury extension plugs in your bars are money well spent, IMO. Bend a little hook on the end of a coathanger, drop a normal 16 ga. automotive wire down into the bars from the bottom until it hits the peak, grab it with the coathanger and pull out. Tape it to your wiring after you lay out lengths, fold it back towards itself and tape again, then PUSH and pull to work it through.
