Default Factory battery charge lead rubbing on drive belt

I have a 2016 SGS and always put it on the battery tender after riding.Factory charge lead is behind left side cover so I have always pulled loose bottom of side cover and grabbed charge lead and when I was done,I tucked charge lead up into cover and snapped it closed. Today after riding,I went to grab lead after pulling bottom of cover loose and had all kinds of sparks.I quickly removed left saddle bag and left cover and found charge lead was almost rubbed through. It took me awhile to figure out what had caused this. When I would push the charge lead back into the cover,it would kink and go around rear vertical frame rail and right under top of drive belt.Factory charge lead is to long and not secured with tie wraps to stop this.I repaired mine and secured it to the vertical rail and left enough to just stick out from under the cover.I would suggest anyone with a Rushmore check this.

I ran mine up just between the saddlebag and the fender, and I use zip ties so I know nothing will rub..

Easier, and doesn't' rub anything.

Mine was ran by the dealer or factory up the left side between fender and saddle bag. Never had a issue.

From the factory, the lead is left inside the side cover.

It is up to the end user (or dealer) to remove the cable and route it to their preference.
Most dealers do exactly how you found yours.

If the cable is removed and tucked back under the side cover, you need to make sure the cable is secure and contained.
They are zip tied in there pretty tight from the factory.

I now find in the owners manual referring to the charge lead they suggest how to route it and tell you to secure it with wire ties.It comes from the factory just rolled up behind the cover and its up to the dealer or owner to route it and secure it.Should of read manual a little more.

You would think that the moco would secure that better out of the factory!

I like the idea that it's behind the cover so its not out in the elements.

I fixed mine up to my liking on day one. Never had to think about it again. Upper right frame just under front of seat, there is a opening in the frame and it set's just in it.

Installed/ran myself...this way there are no problem(s)...probably a good thing to check, for all the new bike owners.
