Default I Wonder.....

I wonder how much of an impact the weak CDN dollar has had on cross-border shopping at HD stores by CDN riders? I also wonder if American HD dealers are still following the MOCO directive of not selling to CDN's if they don't reside in the location of the dealership. In other words, refusing to mail or ship parts even to USA locations out of fear of reprisal by the MOCO?

Sure would make life easier for those of us that want to do business with US Dealers and have the part shipped to a US location in proximity to where we live!! I'd like the opinions of other Canadian riders but would welcome the thoughts of my AMerican riding brothers!

Quite honestly, and no disrespect, I don't think many in the US give a second thought about the weak Canadian dollar and whether or not Canadians can buy US H-D parts. In fact, I wasn't aware that H-D dealers were forbidden from selling to Canadians if they don't reside in the location of the dealership.

With Deeley out of the picture, prices seem to be a bit better, even with the low Canuck Buck.

I've bought a lot of HD parts south of the border over the last 10yrs,but I can't see there being any deals now when we are paying over 1.40 for a US buck.I'm glad I bought everything expensive for my 14 SG back in 2014,the dollar was very near par then.

Last summer I was passing through a Harley shop and decided to ask for a price on an XM module and after I got the price I told the fellow I could get much cheaper through Kutter Harley and was wondering if he would be interested in a match. Then he kind of blew up and said I will have them shut down for selling stuff people out of there area. I basically told him to Shoove the XM module up his *** and good luck with getting them shut down. Of coarse Kutter/ Boardwalk are still going strong.
The way he was acting there must be some kind of agreement or rule amongst the MOCO but I don't know.

You're right in fact the price of a '16 Ultra Limited is $1,300 less than the '15 price. SGS and RGS are about $1,000 less.

My last couple of Harley's, I purchased 99% of my high ticket items from the U.S.. Did the same you mentioned, and had them shipped to a U.S. address in Michigan. Now the way our Cdn. dollar is, there is no savings at all! I just picked up a set of Andrews Cams, and with the exchange rate, pretty much works out to the same.
Dealers are REALLY strict about shipping outside the U.S.. I got "burned" on that when they first started this Policy. I purchased roughly $1500 in parts, and had it sent to my U.S. address. 2 days later, the Dealer cancelled my Order, as the address was recognized as an "export" only building. I lost over $50 just in the exchange alone, and did not get any parts.
Last week, I was looking at a Willie G Skull winter hat. $20, and not even a "genuine motor part". Dealer refused to ship to Canada. They are VERY strict about shipping outside the U.S..

I think if you asked the many many US businesses that rely on Canadian Snowbirds for a significant portion of their income you would get a very different answer.

In the Palm Desert area approximately 30% of the winter residents/ visitors are Canadian and local merchants and the real estate market are feeling the pinch.

Kutter did quite a bit of online sales and price slashing, especially with HD Extended Service Plans. The MOCO cracked down on them to a degree, now that they are boardtracker I don't know if they will push the online stuff as much if the MOCO starts to flex its policy muscles, with being a new owner/dealer that might be enough to scare them off from it.
