Harley sells two "adjustable" Back Rests. The fancy one has a cable operated lever that allows adjustment. The one without the cable is also adjustable, but requires manually changing the mounting points and/or the Back Rest Pad itself. I have used, and presently use, the less expensive version. I love it. I can see no real advantage to the more expensive version.

Thank you for this post. This is my next purchase and you answered my questions.
I like the cable adjustable version, I tend to lean back more & more throughout the day. It came on my last bike and was one of the few things I was able to move to my new bike
I'm sure the other version would be fine once you adjust it to your liking.
+1 for the "on the fly" adjustable system. On long rides I can easily change the position of the backrest without slowing down. I have a bad lower back, and the ability to change rider position throughout the ride is well worth the extra expense.
I have had the rider adjustable one for over a year, but I haven't gotten around to mounting the cable adjuster. Now I lost it in my garage somewhere, so, I guess technically, it is the non-adjustable one now.
