Default trailer tow

so im new to the forum. But i have been reading a lot of your post. So i have been thinking about putting a hitch on my 2014 limited an pulling a trailer on some long trips this coming year. So i stopped by the H D dealer an they told me that the warranty would be void if i did. So my ? is. is it because of the clutch problems they have? or am i missing something.thanks for your time

Nothing to do with the clutch. It's a liability issue. But there are some dealers that will install one with no problem.

Just a easy way for them to get out of warranty because of the extra load. a lot of us have used a easily removable hitch by "MC hitch". I only put it on when I need the trailer. As long as nothing happens while pulling the trailer on the road it is a non issue. Mike

The tech I use told me its hard on the primary and tranny.....he said a because a lot of people overload the trailer. Don't know if that's true or not but my brother in law has been pulling a trailer for years and never had a problem with anything. I know a lot of others pull a trailer and have no issues at all. I don't see the liability issue.

Welcome. Like rmc115 said, H-D doesn't need to know about it. As long as you don't tell them, and don't bring the trailer in with you if you have a warrantee repair (lol), you should be in the clear

This works as long as you do NOT have a problem out on the road - I ran a hitch for several years JUST to hold my Flag Holder (PGR) Sold that bike and got a 15 Ultra Limited - I also got the ESP - decided NOT to run the hitch - We travel a lot out of the area and do NOT want to hassle the ESP police IF I have an issue like I did in Green River WY - a few years back,,, Real glad I had the hitch OFF -

I have heard about this from Honda - but never before from Harley.

I do however recall that Harley voided a guys warranty because he traveled with a lot of flags.

Now, having said that, I wonder why attaching a Harley sidecar do not effect the warranty (not sure they still sell those)

I towed a trailer behind our 05 Ultra for 50,000 miles and now behind our trike 17,000 miles never had a problem with either. Our trailer is light 125 Lbs and what we carry is only about 40 Lbs.

They can't void your warranty. They can deny a warranty claim. I pull a trailer. My dealer told me if I have a drive train issue, take the hitch off before I bring it in.
