I missed my 1200 Sporty so much I bought another to fill the gap. Always wanted an 03 so it fit the bill & ended up being a "XL1200S" which made it even better. Fun little scoot to tool around on and no additional electrical crap to worry about when wrench'n.
Agreed. I miss my 2012 1200 Custom. A lot of Harley riders talk crap about a Sportster, calling it a beginners bike and a "girls bike". A stock Sportster properly ridden will eat the lunch of most touring bikes. I set up my Sportster with a Mustang solo seat, Ohlins shocks and foot boards. I could ride that thing all day in comfort with no complaints.
Although I love my Ultra Limited, the biggest reason I bought it was because 70-80% of my miles are two-up long distance miles and you just can't beat the comfort factor, which is very important to the wife. Having said that, my favorite Harley model has always been the Heritage Softail Classic (since the early 90's). Lately I've been thinking about trying to pick up a used HSC as a second bike for my one-up riding when the wife isn't able to go with me (or when I just need some "man time").
So what would some of you other touring bike riders have if you were getting a second bike, and why (not a bike for the wife - but for you)? I know there are plenty of touring guys that already have a second bike. If so, what is it?
Just curious...
Probably a customized breakout. I have a 14 limited with detach tourpak so street glide too.

Just curious--how often do you take the tour pack off? I have a 16 RGU and have thought about getting the detach kit, but I'm not sure how much I would really use it. I have rode a RGS and it sure does handle different without the box.

I might be the odd man out, but I only put my tour pack on when my wife wants to ride on back. Otherwise its always off and a detachable sissy bar when I have a child who needs a ride.
The bike handles very different with it off. A much lower center of gravity!
My other bike is a Suzuki Savage 650. What's not to like about a classic single cylinder design. I love the looks/comments I get when riding the 'one lunger'. I have changed out the rear fender and plan on putting a bigger tank and different front end on it.
