I am wondering if anyone has tried or have the answer to this. Can you upgrade the Harley Infotainment System using a Garmin Map update? I have a stand alone Garmin Nuvi and get free lifetime map upgrades and was wondering i can download that map update into the harley?

That free lifetime map upgrade only works on the device it was registered too.
Also, the HD unit isn't a "Garmin" device, so even if you could buy a Garmin map, it isn't going to work on the HD unit.

No easier than trying to use your lifetime maps on your friends Garmin - as stated, Only for that ser # device - when you plug it into your computer - Garmin knows exactly what device it is AND its ser # - big brother is Always watching
I Love my Garmin Zumo - I have it mounted on my handle bars and run it thru the Info system. People ask me Why? Because I really know the Garmin AND I can take it off and into the motel or restaurant and work on it - looking for what ever...
BTW - people have run their 'Nuvi's' on their bikes - however, they were not really made for motorcycles and the weather and vibrations can and will sooner or later effect them
