I've pulled the pin in the risers as well like mentioned above. That is necessary to rotate the bars. Easy to do, just disassemble bar from riser and use a vise grip to pull it out as you twist the pin back and forth.

If I can get the taller bars and roll them back enough to maintain current reach to bats I would be good. Thoughts? I am trying to wait to see if I can sit on a bike that has what I am looking for before purchasing but growing impatient.
Mine are back farther than a lot of people run but could have gone farther. I prefer to follow the lines of the fork and it put the grips where I wanted them anyway. There is still plenty of room to adjust the bars either way. I needed to get rid of the pins in the control clamp to get the levers in the right position and you may find a wire issue there if you go too far.

So if you get bars that are stepped down to 1" you can get the La Choppers risers with the built in set screws to hold the bars in place. I'd get that regardless. $109 or so for the risers. A worthy investment for apes.

I had a 2011 RGU... I like my batwing WAY better... but that's just me.

Gathering information for a "friend" of a friend. he called me, and wanted me to do the bar swap, I told him no problem.

After researching parts (through HD) he may change his mind, parts alone were going to run him over a grand.

Just shaking the bushes to see if I can garner some good info for him.

@LP, you took the words out of my mouth!

@Safety, your limited is looking tight!
I thought you bumped your head, and decided to come back to the "TANK"!

Also for more info, check out RoadGlide.org.

Check out board tracker online with the HD fat apes, when I put my parts list together it was going to be less than $430.00 for parts, but I was not going to change out the lower brake lines to match the new hydraulic cables.

Aye Sir. Yeah I really, really like my Limited. I really like the trim, paint, wheels, and all the other little "Limited" stuff.
Wish they would offer a RG Limited... but they don't, so I might either save 10,000 dollars and convert this one (doubt it) or trade or most likely just forget the whole thing.

I have had really good luck buying cables, bars, and such through phatperformance. Saved a few dollars going that way for non-HD parts. Just an option.
Standard batwing bar bushings/mounts should work for any 1 inch bar your friend selects.

I went with the HD chizeled apes. Harley's website says they are 14", but they are actually 16" from the top of the riser bar to the top of the handlebar. If you measure from the middle of the riser bar to the top, it is 18". (Not sure how you are supposed to measure) I used the stock clutch and brake cables, but needed the wire extensions.

13" LA Choppers twin peaks
LA choppers risers for rushmore bikes. Still had to chuck it up in the lathe and mill approx 1/4" off the bottom so it would clear the road glide instrument cover2015-16 Road Glide APES...-tmp_7471-img_20151005_124728-1572297815.jpg
