No,, not common, hell my Fob lasted at least 18-20 months on my '10 Street Glide,, then went to get the second one,, and "Duh" ,, it was near dead too from sitting in my night stand.... Should have figured as much,,, the Batteries come in two packs,, I never put it in my spare FOB until I needed it... again, well over a year later.

Just dropped off my ride yesterday with probably a dead main battery. BUT, my FOBs started failing to shut off the alarm about 2 months ago. Changed the battery in the main FOB and it still was intermittent. No better with the back up one either.
I took of my phone and holster off and set it aside and still had issue. I moved the FOB over the side cover and it would reset. Then I'd slide it into my pocket about 5" from the antenna and again it would not shut off the alarm.
So maybe today I'll know what the fix is and I'll share what my issue is when I get the bike back.
While in I'm having the saddlebag clips that were replaced double checked to be sure they are the correct ones.
Also the front wheel bearings are starting to howl.
This is one of the first new Rushmores built in June of 2013.

I ran into the same problem, at a certain spot on my route. After and Hr. of frustration I discovered that a power transmission line was running underground near to were I was parked. I was ready to call the brother in law to come and get me when I thought we should roll the bike back about 10', started right up. I believe it was a magnetic field that was screwing up the signal from Fob to the bike module .

Just back from dealer, they moved the antenna, said it was a problem they had run into before. Remove seat antenna is rectangular connection on the left front of where seat was, part of it is under wiring harness, pick it up and turn it around, it will be in center of bike. All is good for now.
