Do Rushmores have an engine overspeed shut down?
Riding my '14 SGS today I was following someone doing 45 that I wanted to pass, dropped a gear and got ready, then when I had the clear, dropped one more gear and stood on it... poof. Bike completely shut the engine down and kicked the check engine light on as soon as I swung out in the opposite lane to pass. Coasted into a driveway and after some serious mother ef'ing of my bike, got to doing my mechanic thing. Hit start button, absolutely no attempt to turn the bike over. No click, no gauge/screen cutout like a loose battery cable, it just didn't do anything. Cycled the key switch and the check engine light was no longer on, fuel pump ran its cycle, so I hit the start button... Check engine light came on and again didn't attempt to start at all. Voltmeter on dash read just over 12 volts the entire time. Checked all fluids, all good. No leaks, nothing abnormal on gauges, nada. Would not attempt to start. Had the dealership come pick it up since I was only 3 miles from them. By the time they got it off their truck at the shop, it started and ran like nothing happened.
It was closing time so the manager cycled through the codes quick on the dash and said there were a handful, they'd pull them up tomorrow and go through them. It's just bugging me what it could be. Ive got a fair amount of mods on the bike, so hopefully it doesn't mess with warranty. Just figured I'd see if there's something I'm unaware of with these bikes like some kind of engine overspeed fail safe. I honestly can't remember what gears I was in today, and I wasn't paying attention to my tach, so maybe an overspeed?

What tuner are you running. I'm running thunder max and my bike was shutting down, but it would start right back up. Dealer made me put original Ecm on a bike went into limp mode no throttle. They claim the found a pinched wire on near the jiffy stand. Did some searching and found they have been having wiring issues on the connecter behind the air box. The pins would come loose when riding over rough roads. That would be where I would start. I don't have the number, but there was a service bulletin sent out to the dealers. Mine fained ignorance said he never heard of it until I showed home the order.
Good luck

Yeah I thought that would be a terrible way to regulate engine speed lol. I was just cycling through some ideas. The codes he did know off top of his head while cycling through them were some limp home codes, guess we'll see tomorrow what the deal is.

It was actually a car and a semi, and I didn't have all the time in the world to do it in sixth gear. And no, 6th gear is not a neck-breakingly quick accelerating gear at 45 mph, especially when the cams I have don't even make their power curve until 3500 rpm.
