Not really related, but I was sitting out front of the Dealer, listening to music on iphone while bike was in for service.

Iphone kept losing earbud audio, display showed it switched to HD Radio (or whatever it calls it). Bike was in the back, maybe 100' away, so I don't think it was pairing with my bike.

Made me question the security back then, wondering if it was hooking up with a closer bike either on its own, or something like close by someone trying to pair their device at the same time.

Is the new one Harmon Kardon? With the poor quality of the old ones, figure HD would have shopped for different manufacturer! I had three buttons quit working on mine,, clock was wrong for the last 2 years I owned it! LOL

I have a Galaxy S3 bluetoothed to mine. Phone was on the kitchen table, bike was in the shed at least 100 ft away and when I turned ignition to acc, it connected and played music from the phone. Notreal stable audio, but it did connect, even in the metal building.

My bike did the same thing while at the dealer , I took it in for the saddle bag recall, while I was waiting the wife called I answered the phone I could hear her but she couldn't hear me, the phone was connected to the bike still from at least 75 feet away. Now I just turn my Bluetooth off until I am on the bike.

Generally wifi networks have a range of 100 feet depending on several factors.

Blue tooth range is generally 20 to 30 meters, again dependent several factors.

So you could have been accessing your bike, especially since he may have had the power turned on the bike doing some check etc.

What will I do if someone hacks mine while I'm riding and gains control of the steering?!?

Seriously though, I'm glad that they are being looked into. It seems as if it's a "helping hand" look to find out if there are other problems and if hey knew about if. Not a "we are here to bend you over" look...

What would really be nice is if they would hack in and fix the problems.

FWIW... 30 meters is roughly 100 feet.

Or 98.4252 feet, to be more precise.

I'm not an electronics guy... but I am a math guy.

Bluetooth range is 20-30 feet generally...not 100 feet...
