Default Auto Tuner (Piggy Back)

Asked the dealer about installing an auto tuner. Service tech advised not to install a piggy back tuner because it could burn out the ECM. Has anyone experienced a problem?

I have never heard of anyone with a fried ECM due to a tuner. I've heard of people having problems with the Zippers Thundermax ECM.

If you are concerned there are a couple of Flash based tuners on the market that can modify the stock ECM and then be removed from the vehicle. DynoJets Power Vision comes to mind as well as the Harley tuner, which the dealer in undoubtedly trying to sell you.

Had a pro tuner piggy backed to my 06 ultra classic. I have never had any problem with it. It is still going strong for the new owner.

I had a piggy back tuner on my last bike a 2007 from about a week after I purchased the bike. The map applied was a custom map from several Dyno sessions with the bike. That bike still has the same tuner on it today and the new owner has had nearly an issue. That's the same piggy back tuner for 8 years. Not sure you could ask for more reliability than that.
