Question #2 regarding Basecamp, that is correct. You don't want to "Select All". You should just select the main gpx file route name; that file will already contain all of your shaping points and waypoints. Honestly, I don't recall if the shaping points get alerted or not... I want to say no, but am not positive.

We just used Basecamp for the Boom GPS on a 3500 mile trip to Sturgis and back, and had no issues with the route. But again, I couldn't tell you for sure if the shaping points (marked as won't alert) get alerted.
Thanks. I use basecamp all the time and when I am alone or a ride leader of a small group it isn't a problem if I make sure that I clean up the route before loading it. We did a large group ride this weekend. I shared my route with other riders. On occasion the ride leader made a small change in the route. My HD wanted to bring me back to the missed waypoint. the others that I shared the route with did not know how to skip the missed waypoint. It made their nav useless. This morning I tried the select only the route and it still brought all the shaping points in as way points and I intentionally missed the first one and it kept trying to bring me back. On the garmin devices I own, if you missed a shaping point (via point) the device recalculated you to the next shaping point and did not try to force you back. Have you achieved this?
