Unhappy Drive belt issue

I recently took my bike in for annual inspection and when I picked it up the service manager told me that I had a couple of missing teeth on the drive belt. He stated that I must have picked up a stone and knocked them off. He said Harley considers this normal wear and tear therefore it's not a warranty covered issue. My 2014 Ultra only has 4100 miles on it, has anyone ever had an experience with this issue? Thanks in advance if you can shed any light on this issue......

Picking up a rock usually punches a hole through the belt and later the belt tears.
I would be very skeptical of a rock, "knocking teeth off". Especially if the teeth are cut off clean/missing and not mangled.
I would have the dealer inspect the pulleys for rock damage and if they find nothing, I would press for a warranty repair. Anything big enough to "knock teeth off" would damage the pulley(s) as well.

I wouldn't just take their word for it. Kinda sounds like BS.

Never had any teeth come off, but had a rock hole in the middle of the belt. Missing teeth=change belt, hole not necessarily. Put 15k on holey belt and changed when I did the 5-6 tranny swap. A good shop should work a new belt into warranty unless there is irrefutable proof of rock damage.

I formally and sincerely apologize to you Ironass. No excuse but I looked at your post incorrectly. I'll just keep my mouth shut and pull my "Victory " around on a trailer. Again Ironass, I apologize.

yes it was absolutely a mistake. I feel it was more than a mistake. It was from my ignorance about forums. I have apologized to Ironass publicly and privately.

Probably should apologize to @IronAss in the offending thread not the 6 year old one. Oh well, no worries. May want to read up on the rules and look around a bit to see what is going on. Best Regards................

I only ever had one belt go bad and it was a Primo aftermarket Primary Belt setup. It was on my 1976 FXE when I bought it. I rode with that Primo primary belt for 3 or 4 years, then I was on a ride and smelled rubber burning. I was 100 miles from home. I opened up the primary on the highway and saw that the belt was getting narrow. This was your standard aftermarket Primary belt about 1-1/2 inch wide or less. I made it home and the belt was 1/4" wide! The pulleys were tight and in good shape. I switched to a used O.E.M. Primary Chain setup.

My 2006 FXSTI had the narrow 20mm belt. It was the original belt but I was not the original owner but he was my neighbor so I know it's history. I sold the bike to my step-son. It has 30,000 mles on it and has never needed adjusting. That is a good thing because there isn't much if any adjustment available with the 200mm rear tire setup. I switched to a 130 rear tire and a Sportster lace wheel and was going to go with an 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 inch belt as I had the room, but my friend, a knowledgeable Indie owner told me that belt will last 150,000 miles. But I have watched him change belts that rocks took out on other Harleys.

I will stick with the chain and a few Master and Half links in my tool pouch on my 1984 FXEF Fat Bob Super Glide.
