Default lower forks are they clear coated?

Is there a clear protective coat on the aluminum lower section of the front forks? or is it bare Metal?

I have a metal polishing rag that I use on the chrome bits that works great, I thinking of using it on the forks.....
thanks
brian

Yes, they have a cheap clear coat that immediately starts to get porous and traps road salts and other corrosive agents. That's why so many of these bikes have black speckling on the lowers. Removing it and polishing the lower legs is the only way I've found to keep them looking good. It's a total PIA, but well worth it.

Or you can spend a bunch of money and bling the front end. I could not stand the look of the lowers before I changed them out to chrome.
