Now if only I liked my new Mustang Tripper Solo seat as much........
That's how I have mine. I have found a fourth position of putting the rear of your heels on top of the highway pegs.

Also, I feel ya on the Mustang seat. I didn't like mine either and went with C&C instead. Much happier now...

Not to hijack my own thread, but... did you have your Mustang with a backrest or not? My main problem is that whenever I get on the throttle, I don't have any support like the stock seat gives, and it ends up feeling like I'm pushing my tailbone against a brick wall. Not sure how much would backrest help, I've never had one before...

Lol. Yes, I had the backrest on both the Mustang and C&C. My issue was seat comfort but the backrest will help your situation.

I'm using
Short Angled Adjustable Highway Peg Mount Kit-50830-07A
Mine haven't left a mark so far. I also have the short adjustable kit. Still trying to find a position that works for me.

I just got my Mustang Super Solo back from Mean City. They did the memory foam mod, and lowered it an inch. In the stock trim it was just to hard. A 100 mile run damn near killed me lol.

Haven't got a long ride in yet with the mod. Hope it works better. Feels a bit softer, and I hear it needs a few hundred miles to break in.
