Creating Route and Downloading into GPS

I've had major "operator error" and "navigation error" problems with the Nav on my Limited.
For short trips it's fine, but I had a 400 mile trip with 4 waypoints. I knew the preferred route but "tried" to let the Nav do it's thing but it was possessed - I had it avoiding highways and it was routing us all over hell and back.
On the highway, the Nav is fine and the lane assist works pretty good too.
I hope to have this ironed out before our 10-day trip to Nova Scotia this summer...

I'm using "Tyre" and finding it very intuitive and an easy learn. I've tried the HD Planner and Basecamp - didn't like them as HDP was too finicky i found, and base camp, although very powerful, has a steep learning curve (for me anyway).
Tyre also allows you to rename the waypoints just after you insert them. It is also based on Google maps so it is easy to navigate the map, and you can use street view.

I've been using the Garmin Zumo line since inception. I reluctantly converted from MapSource to Basecamp since Garmin decided not to support the older software. Basecamp, after getting used to it, does work very well to create routes. There are two points that I suggest in order to have a flawless outcome on the Infotainment.
1. Use plenty of waypoints. I place one waypoint after nearly every turn.
2. Set preferences in your software AND your Infotainment to "Faster Time". If following the fasted time to the waypoints above, your software and Infotainment will have no choice but follow from one waypoint to the next as you have created.
I've traveled many multi-state trips on backroads without a hitch.
Good luck!
