Default Saddlebag Rattle Loose 15SGS

I noticed a rattle in the rear of my 15SGS not long after I purchased. At first I thought it was passenger backrest but wasn't.

I then narrowed it down to the right side. Removed saddlebag and tightened all bolts on saddlebag support. Still didn't take care of it.

Finally found that's it's within the saddlebag mounting area with 1/4 turn pins. Pins on left saddlebag snap into place when securing. Pins on right saddlebag don't feel as secure. I added another washer to pin assembly to make it fit tighter. Noticed a major difference in how much more secure it fealt.

But something is still loose. I can go over a rough area in the road and saddlebag will rattle. But them reach down and put pressure on bag and rattle goes away.

Any ideas? Eventually going back to dealership, but looking for a temporary fix for now.

I simply wrapped electrical tape around the pins to make them much tighter. Now they never come loose on their own.

I took he front pin out and replaced them with a bolt. No rattles, and nobody stealing the bags.

The washer stack inside the bag, should be a large rubber washer next to the bag, then a large metal washer on top of it. Then the pin is inserted and should click closed or at least have considerable resistance as you turn it in.

I think most of the incidents, loosing a bag, have resulted from the rubber washer not being in place and then there is a space/gap and the pin and single metal washer can not snug/close the gap for a secure attachment.

If what you have done doesn't do it, then i would have it checked. There should not be any gap/play/looseness at that attachment point. You don't want to loose a bag.

Naturally you could replace the pins with bolts/nuts and washers.

To add to the above, if the metal fender washer is missing, it will also cause a loose condition, and allow the dzus pin to not seat correctly.

I had a similar problem. The right front pin loosened up and was laying in the saddlebag. Tried putting it back in again with all the washers installed and it would just loosen up. It just did not have any resistance when the pin was twisted to the lock position. The pin looked fine and I also tried a new pin with the same results. Ended up replacing the Receptacle, Stud (spring clip) #10900009 for the right front fastener. All good for the last 7,000 miles.

Check to make sure there's a bushing underneath. Mine was missing.

I noticed the new bag fasteners have protection from the fender strut covers so that the pin is hidden from crooks who used to get in that gap and steal the bags that way.

Is this correct? Do the new 2014/2015 bags not need the aftermarket bag securement set up now?

Thanks
