Default XM on a RG

Just activated the 3 month complimentary service today. I know others with Limiteds have reported less than favorable reception with the antenna in the stock location. Haven't heard from the RG crowd tho.

Does the different fairing make a difference? I haven't had mine opened up so I have no idea where the antenna is mounted.

Anyway, I'll report back after I get some saddle time and see how it fairs.

I tried looking at the installation instructions for the XM module but it's not available for the 2015 RG. I know you have a CVO RG, so it comes with the bike, but I can't find out where the xm antenna is on the CVO RG.

Thanks for the effort.

Didn't get time today for a test run, should be able to this weekend tho.

Clear skies and in the drive way it works just fine. Lol

What ever you do try to mount it outside the fairing open to the sky. Done that on my ultra and I have never had the reception cut out any where other than the obvious spots, like inside my metal shop.

Got some saddle time this weekend and with clear skies, no weather XM worked perfect. On the back roads with heavy tree cover it did cut out intermittently but couldn't guarantee it was due to tree cover. In some areas it worked fine while in others it would cut out for a second or two and then be fine. Might have been more due to elevation and hills, I dunno.

Over all I'm happy with it for now.

If someone opens up the fairing and finds a better place to mount it on a RG let me know. This fairing doesn't appear to offer a clean, factory look like others have done on the batwing (opposite the vent button).

For East Coast riders you'll notice that any blockage to the west cuts out the signal. I have XM in my car and it doesn't cut out as much. Probably due to the antenna being another few feet off the ground up on the roof of an SUV.

I was wondering about the where the antenna is as I feel I may be in the way of it sometimes when I head due east and my body is blocking the line of sight to the west.

That makes sense regarding where the XM satellite is in the sky.

For now I'm good but if someone else wants to experiment with moving the antenna around I'd be interested in the results.
