Are you trying to circumvent the speed sensor so you can enter info while riding?

I think 14cvoultra may be thinking if the GPS doesn't get the signal from the speed sensor it may instead calculate speed based on satellite information, but I am not sure that's what they are trying to achieve.

Right - but when your tires wore down, wouldn't you speedometer change & then disagree with the GPS again? And then when you bought new tires - especially if they are a different brand - wouldn't it disagree again?

I don't think you find any on-board GPS system in any vehicle displays the speed from the satellites. It will always be from the speed sensor so it agrees with the speedometer. I usually check ours against a portable Garmin to see just how far off they are & make a mental note.

On my Honda Goldwing they fixed this problem. The GPS does NOT display speed under any circumstances. This is good because the Speedometer is so wildly wrong. I had to buy a "SpeedoHealer". The "SpeedoHealer" goes in the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) circuit and can be adjusted to make the Speedometer 100% accurate. Has anyone taken a handheld GPS on their Harley with the 6.5 to see how accurate (or inaccurate) the Speedometer really is?

Yes, I have. Here's a thread on it. Mine is pretty accurate once I adjusted the speed using my PV. What I have found is the decal on the speedometer is actually off. Since we know that the Boom GPS and speedometer are one in the same, I could map the differences using an external gps.

I did, and across the band to 100mph I found it to be 4% off.

I adjusted the PPU 4%, now reads dead accurate with my external Garmin.

But I work with electronic instrumentation in the oilfield for a living, and it makes sense to me.

Yes I am trying to circumvent the speed sensor signal to the GPS so that I can enter info while riding? But after studying the wiring diagram today I have to assume it is being sent on the canbus line could not find a speed sensor signal going to the GPS. Back to the software Hack

Mine is also off by 4% using a Garmin to compare it to. As soon as V&H comes out with that speedo correction update that I'm hearing about for the FP3, it'll be fixed.

I got the following using my GARMIN/Bike GPS/Speedo:

30/29/29
45/44/46
55/54/56
65/65 (fluttering between 64/65)/67
75/74/77

Installed Dakota Digital dash and set the speed at 96%. Now speed and mileage are accurate according to the 5 mile speedo checks on freeways. The odometer & speed were both off 4 %
