Default Trip Adjustment

I had a Garmin 660 on my last bike and was pleased with it and I really like the gps on my '14, but have a question. Can you plan a route, decide not to trigger it in the beginning and later on the ride, when you do, does it try to take you back to your original starting point? That's been my experience, whereas the Garmin took up the route from where you were.

Default Bit of a pain

To do that you'd have to delete all the points you have already passed otherwise it will never give up trying to take you back to all the points you missed. That is not difficult but it is too distracting to do it while rolling.

This may have changed with the 18.3 update, I haven't installed that yet, but the earlier versions worked this way.

The HD Boom NAV system works just like my Garmin 1450 did.

Using your example, when you decide later on to actually take your route, the first question that will pop up is something like "Start from the beginning?"
Can't remember the exact wording, but it should be easy to figure out.

If you say "Yes", then of course your NAV system is going to want to route you back to your first starting point.
If you say "No", then it will pick up where you are and take you to your first way point.

The Garmin's I have had all worked the exact same way.

Default That makes sense

I've had a couple of instances where the system worked that way, but not always.

As I think about it, it was probably because I was closer to the start than the first way point. But I was on a main road that would have been quicker to go to the start and then continue rather than take side roads to the next waypoint. So when I selected NO it took me to the start point anyway.

So in answer to your original question, it would depend on where you were in relation to the route and what strategy you were using... fastest, shortest, scenic.
