Amazing the problems these HD's have.....like they're made of plastic but sold for a price that reflects platinum.

...and people just keep buying them as fast as the MOCO can crank them out - defects and all!

My 14 FKHTK had a knocking in neutral at around 19k. Knock was from the transmission area and Dealer admitted it was not "neutral rattle". They looked into it and could not find anything that looked bad. Mother Harley told them to replace all the bearings in the transmission and the primary bearing. It's been ok for the last 2k miles.

I noticed the notice at around 18K miles. At the 20k service they checked the compensator and everything was in spec (of course). I read somewhere on here about turning up the rpm at idle and that would quiet it down.

Luckily I have a V&H Fb3 tuner and was able to turn up my idle and now I rarely hear the noise. 25K on my 14 FLHXS currently. At least it's documented and if I have a failure I should be good.

I got a call from the dealer a little while ago. The service manager said the head tech had listened to it with a stethoscope and couldn't pinpoint the source of the noise. They didn't want to tear the engine down and possibly not find anything. They said they felt the bike was ok to ride so I'll pick it up tomorrow when we are down there for a poker run. I told the service manager I was going to ride the hell out of it and when it blows up, they can come get it and put a new engine in it.

Dump whatever is in the primary, I'm guessing Syn 3 and put Formula+ back in the primary. It worked on my 2014 FLHTK.

I went through the exact same thing. The noise came back for me. Dumped the Syn3 out of the primary and put Formula+ back in the primary, then put Bel Ray in the tranny and no more noise and bike running great.

OK, update on the bike. We were at the dealership today with my motorcycle group sponsoring a poker run to send fallen heroes kids to summer camp. They had told me I could pick the bike up today and they couldn't find anything wrong. The head technician told me when he cranked it up to pull it outside this morning that it sounded much worse. When we left this afternoon he was tearing it down. He seems to think it may be in the cam chest. Hopefully I'll hear something Monday on what they've found out and what direction they are going to go with it.

I'm glad your dealer had the integrity to look further. Good luck.

Any progress?
