14 SGS - Mine has had a light knocking since it was new. Around 1000 mi I used a stethoscope to determine where exactly & the best I could tell it was in the the compensator area. I opened it up, checked the TQ & everything else, put the Formula+ back in..... and 5000 mi later, basically no change. Its due for a fluid change soon, going to MTL so maybe that will help... or not.

My 14 limited developed a knock at idle after putting syn3 in the primary. Dumped the syn3 and put in formula + , haven't heard it since.

It doesn't sound like it's coming from the primary. I talked to the service writer today and he said the tech needed a stethoscope to try to pinpoint where the noise is coming from and he didn't have one in his tool box. He said the tool truck should be there tomorrow. I guess I'm in a wait and see holding pattern now.

Took mine in yesterday with 2500 miles on it, sounded like someone threw a bunch of marbles in it, the service writer couldn't tell if it from the engine or the tranny

man, i had the exact same issue with my 2014 ultra limited. took it in to them and they couldn't find the problem. had to call in one of the harley tech specialists and they found that it was the (please forgive my ignorance of part names) engager for the clutch? they showed me the part, but i have no idea what it's called. but, they said that it was 'within spec'...so, essentially, they told me to blow it out my a$$ and deal with it. it's still knocking to this day. not happy about it either, but i was told by the tech that was working on it to ride that **** until it blows up, then bring it back. so, that's what i'm going to do.

My compensator sounded like a bucket of bolts at idle with Syn3.Changed to Mobil1 v-twin, noise is gone.

The marble rattling sound in neutral is on every newer (12-14) touring bikes. It has to do with the way the gears are cut. Pull in the clutch and it goes away. They won't do anything about it. Say "It's normal"

Keep us updated as mine has been in 3 times for knocking coming from compensator coming loose twice when it goes into EITMS & the third time they "said" it was all in spec.???
