stage 1 Exhaust opinions
I currently have the stock head pipes with Street Cannon slip-ons.
I just did the high flow Air Cleaner and FP3 tuner.
I want my exhaust to be louder and a somewhat lower pitch.
I had the Big radius pipes on my softail and although the pipes on this bike do not need to be as loud as those.....close would be good.
I am looking at the Vance & Hines High output 4.5 inch slip-ons and either the dresser duals or power duals.
I expect to do one piece at a time...so as to spread out the cost.
So question is would you do the head pipes first and then do the mufflers or do the mufflers to get the louder sound now and then do the headpipes later?
Is anyone running the V&H High output slip-ons? if so how do you like them?

BillNich,
I would go with the headers first to open up the beast and reduce heat. You will notice an increase in the exhaust note and better performance, you may even like your existing mufflers. Look at Fuel Moto's head pipe, great product, support and site sponsor. Fuelmotousa.com You will need to adjust your tune regardless of which pipe you choose. I went with Rinehart 4" mufflers on my SGS and love the low deep rumble. Good luck

I really like the Street Cannons with stock headers. I think they sound as good as any V&H full system I've heard on the Rushmores, and I'm not sure the loudness is going to be that much greater if you make the switch, especially when you crack the throttle. I run Rush Big Louies, which are deeper and louder than the Street Cannons, so you may want to try those first before investing in additional mods if you're after decibels primarily.

I ordered the Rush ceramic head pipes and Big Louie Mufflers. I was able to find them online for 880.00. Should be in this week. My reasoning is the articles I read in magazines and posts on this site convinced me of the heat reduction value of ceramic. Also, the Rush exhaust offers different size baffles for noise preference. I settled on the 2". I was told by Rush if you took a scale of 1-10, 1 being stock and 10 drag pipes, the 2" was about a 3. I am excited to get them and will let you know how they work.

I installed the power duels on my 14 SG and I am very happy with them. My mufflers are the Monster rounds and tuned with the FP3 as well. At first I was not happy with the sound of the mufflers alone. Once I installed the V&H Power duels I as happy with the sound. I can now hear the bike and the radio on the highway. Just my .02 best of luck with your choice of head pipes..

I'm running V&H H.O.'s with stock head pipe. I had Street Cannon's prior to these. I had a tough time deciding between the H.O.'s and the OS 450's (both are 4.5" diameter) but after a little research, I learned that the 450's are a bit louder and may not be as conducive to long distance rides. The H.O.'s are loud enough and I personally like the looks of them better anyway. Adding a new head pipe will make them louder too so consider that. The H.O.'s have more of a lower toned rumble as opposed to the quieter cruise and loud muffled "pop" that the S.C's have when you get on it. The V&H baffles are larger diameter so you may notice a slight loss in low end torque but better power at high RPM. When I added the FP3 the low end came back.

DannyZ71 is running the VH Power Duals and HO slip-ons; sounds really good. Nice deep mellow rumble, and really bark on WOT. One thing I'll add is that when I ride fairly close to him, there is a definite exhaust pulse that I feel when riding in close proximity. Back off a tad, and it goes away...

I don't have the V&H HO, but I do have the OS450s (and Power Duals). I didn't want something that was stupid loud, just deep and rumbly and I think I got it with the OS450s. Even though I didn't want stupid loud, I can't imagine it being quieter... if it was, i'd be unhappy. Somebody had said the V&H will lose torque down low because of the diameter, but my dyno sheet says different. I am very happy with the setup.
As for your question, I'd go with the headpipe first to get the performance and heat reduction and see how it sounds. Then buy the slipons.

Also do you know if there is any difference in ground clearance from stock?
