Default Mobil 1 VT 20/50 all three holes?

I see that Mobil1 is stating that you should use this in all three holes like HD says to do with Syn3. Thoughts?

Another oil thread. You're new. You can ask 100 different people & you'll get 100 different opinions. I use RedLine 20/50 in engine, Redline ShockProof in trans & HD Formula+ in primary. IMHO, engine oil in engine, some brand of gear lube in trans & HD Formula+ primary. Just my 2 cents.

Whatever lubes your crank! Yes it will work fine in all 3 holes.

You can choose any of the suggestions you will read. I highly suggest you do NOT run synthetic oil in you primary. I run Quicksilver 20w50 syn Vtwin in the motor, because it has some oil feel to it and it's quieter then Amsoil and Mobile 1. I run Mobile 1 synthetic gear lube in the trans and Rotella T Dino 15w40 in the primary. The motor does not clatter/tick. The neutral clunk is 90% gone and the trans smoothly drops into gear on up and down shift. This is what works for me, I have tried many.

Valvoline wet clutch oil is reasonably priced and often can be bought at $ 3.99 a qt.

I use Mobil1 V-Twin in all 3 holes.Switching from Syn3 got rid of the horrible ratlling noise from the compensator. So ,yes, I use it in the primary and found that it made a significant difference over Syn3.

Just curious...

Why do you not run Red Line Primary fluid?

I used to run F+, until I tried Red Line Syn Primary Fluid....

I don't care what you run in your motor, or even your primary. But, it makes no sense to me to use motor oil in a tranny when that's what gear oil is for.

I've got 150,000 (mostly gentle,) miles on a stock tranny and have never had a problem running Mobil 75W-90 gear oil yet.

Except the vast majority of motorcycles in the world have engines and trannies that share the same oil. Works fine for all of them. Harley even ships their CVO's with Syn. 3 in all three holes.

I know they do. I would suspect that because we can run separate oils in our trannys, gear oil would be the preferred choice. Can you imagine a gear oil test with Harley Syn 3 in the mix? Syn 3 can't possibly stand the shear test that gear oils are expected to tolerate, otherwise why bother making tranny specific gear oils at all?

And as to Harley shipping the bikes that way, I'm not surprised.
