Good pointers here. I like the idea of a small pilot hole from the inside and finish from the outside. Gonna have to get one on order. (yes, I was the guy who said he was done)

 

This is exactly how I did it when I installed the Airwing on my Ultra. I used the pre-marked circles on the inside and drilled a very small pilot hole. In addition to using blue painters tape, I used a wood block on the outside and applied pressure to it while I drilled the first pilot hole. I then drilled the rest of the holes from the outside using progressively larger bits. I can tell you it was a bit nerve racking to drill those holes in a perfectly good TP.

 

That's good to hear. The label on the rack say 10 pounds max, I always felt that was a little lite.

 

Just bought a luggage rack and installed it today on my 2015 Ultra. Rack is same as the rack on the Limited and has been for the last 100 years! Or so I was told. Anyhow, simple and easy install. I laid it out on some blue painters tape. Measured numerous times, eyeballing it for looks, remeasured etc. Started drilling 1/16 on up in small jumps. When done, opened lid and SOB.. there were actually marks inside that showed the hole locations, at least on my tour pack lid! I was off a bit, but not much from the marks. So, anyone looking to do this... BEFORE spending a half hour laying it out.. look for the marks inside the cover! It may some a crap load of time!

After install, I really love the looks of the rack. I never had an ultra, came from a Heritage, but love the room for storage. I like the looks of the rack and wanted it from day one, but was not going to pay the extra cost for the limited for the rack, CB, and bigger radio with crappy GPS. Gives it some style now, and makes everyone thing it is an Limited!

Yes I added a H-D rack to my 2014 Ultra, the dealer threw it in on the deal. I installed the one on my 2007 also. Its a fairly easy job, the tour pack material drills easily. Like others have said tape, mark, and drill. Take your time and it should be a piece of cake.
