Default '14 Ultra Limited - Broken Tour Pak Mount bolt

Hello everyone. I picked up a left over '14 Ultra Wednesday and last night decided to slide the tour pak as far back as it would go. When I got under there and started loosening bolts I thought it was odd that there were only 3 nuts. Once I took the liner out I could see there were supposed to be 4 total. the 4th one was there but it had been busted off.

Not sure if these nuts are tightened at the factory or the dealer but looks like something went wrong. It looks like the pinch nuts are pinched a little too tight.

Picked this one up at Surdyke who are about a 4 hour drive so going to take it to one of the local dealers and hear the speach about you should have just bought from us! ha

Other than this bolt, I love the new bike!

Is it normal for the nuts that hold the tour pak onto the plate to be pinched like this at the top? The bottom is still round but all three have been pinched in so the top side of the nut is oval shaped. These are what the three remaining nuts that were still on the bottom of the pack look like.

Maybe they were crimped like that to keep them from vibrating off?

Thanks for the responses. The dealer I purchased it from said they look normal to them from the pictures, they are just pinched like that so they don't rattle off. I'm hoping I can take just the base plate with the bolts attached to it to the local dealer and get it traded out.

I haven't had a new Harley with a warranty before so not sure if they would rather have the whole bike or if you can take in pieces like the plate to get traded out.

Seems like those pinched nuts are massive overkill, where a total of four drops of thread locker would have sufficed!

Maybe try Nyloc nuts?

I added a detach kit and moved the tour pak back the day I got the bike.

The nuts looked similar to your photo, but not a "used" around the edges.

Enjoy the Ride
