I noticed that it was missing when I was a couple miles from home after a hundred mile run today. The heel shifter was there before I took off. I planned on taking it off, but not this way.
If you still have it, toss it in your saddle bag as you might need it for the front in an emergency. I stopped not too long ago to help a biker out and his front was gone and left his back one at home. His wife was on the way with the rear so he could get the bike home.

Several folks have reported taking them off for inspection and seeing that the slot is not actually free to compress as is has metal inside. After removing this or clearing the slot they were able to properly tighten and eliminate any play. Only applying torque may not solve the issue.
