The fact is no two markets are the same. Look around at all the dealers within an area you are willing to travel and get the best you can get. After a couple of quotes, you will know what the market price is. Make the deal, ride the bike off and never look back. Life is way to short to spend months trying to save an additional $500-$1000, I would rather be spending that time riding the bike.
Zactly! The way to buy your bike is to get as close to the number that you have in mind. The very best deal is when both seller and buyer leave frustrated. For the most part, the seller is the happy party. Remember to ask for everything under the sun, you have nothing to lose. Be confident. If you are worried about things like credit score and cash, you will lose confidence. The dealer really doesn't care about you. They care about making money. So, go get yourself a bike and get out and ride safe!

Ditto there, Dinger. The "invisible hand" doesn't give the courtesy of a reach-around! I will say, though, the dealer in my market (pop. 200k) actually does seem to care. I had buyer's remorse (er... forum headspin) after reading the threads about the V&H HO vs. Monsters slip ons and Boom Phase II audio. Went back to the dealer this morning with hat in hand asking if I could make some changes.

Total clusterF*#k for them to sort out, but they were great about it. There was never a question as to whether they'd let me basically redo the add-ons I had financed into my loan on thursday. To me they earned whatever profit they made on the deal. BTW, its Fargo Harley Davidson, and the staff there definitely deserves a shout-out!

I am working on a deal for a 15 RGS here in NC and the best price I've been quoted so far is 23k OTD. That's just the bike no ESP or anything else. We have 3% tax. I'm confident that when I'm ready to pull the trigger I can get one for 22.5 OTD here. I thought that was pretty good considering everyone has the fever right now.

Why do people keep using out the door? Much easier to just say price of bike before taxes and title...

Yes then that will be the actual price since it's crazy tax difference between states.

But of course by the time I left I was much higher than that. Maybe all the chrome in the shop was blinding me, but I also bought the gap insurance for $650. Anyone had experience with that?

They threw in a free t-shirt, bottle of paint cleaner, microfiber cloth, and 10% parts.
Gap is not mandatory in CA or AZ check your state and you have option to cancel without a charge in 60 days but again check the state you are in.
