I created a trail today and exported the GPX file to my thumb drive. I am now trying to view it and it will not import onto ride planner. What am I doing wrong? It is definitly a GPX file. Any Help? Thanks, Grant.

 

We need more info my friend.

Dropping a GPX onto a thumb drive does nothing by itself. U need a program to read it.

Like if u have a Garmin GPS, u can drop it into the GPX directory and it will then read it.

Pls give us more info to hopefully help you.

Trails can't be imported in to Ride Planner even though it is a gpx file. You will need Tyre or Basecamp or a couple others out there.

 

On Harley Ride planner you can import and read the file. At least that is what I thought. I have been using ride planner to create routes and have gotten fairly decent with it and actually prefer it over other applications. HD ride planner uses GPX. does it not?

 

According to ride planner you can import GPX files. Hit Sync, manual and there is a browse button, and as long as it is a GPX file you should be able to import. I tested with a ride I put on a thumb drive. Imported it to Ride Planner no problem. Thank You, Grant.

 

When I say created a trail, I mean I recorded a ride. I also tested the Ride Planner by importing a route into it from my thumb drive. A GPX file.

 

There is a difference in how the file is written inside the gpx file with a route versus a trail. With a trail, you will see hundreds and up to thousands of markers depending on how long you recorded the trail for. Plus, if you could get it to load in to Rideplanner, the minute you save it, it would no longer be a trail.

 

From the 2015 manual:
EXPORTING A ROUTE
A trip, trail or saved destination can be exported to a USB
storage device. The system exports the set of routes as a GPX
file named "H-D_NavData.gpx". If needed, the system will add
a sequential number to prevent overwriting other previously
saved files (such as "H-D_NavData(1).gpx"). Multiple trips or
destinations can be contained in a single GPX file.
The export feature is designed to back up routes or share
routes with other riders that have a Boom! Box system. Whilethe GPX file may be imported into other GPS devices, there
may be limitations on compatibility.
1. Connect a USB device to store the files. The USB device
must be formatted to FAT16 or FAT32 (typical format used
by PCs) to support data exports. NTFS-formatted devices
are read-only and do not support GPX export.
2. From the Navigation menu, select Menu.
3. Select Export. A list of trips, trails and saved destinations
are displayed.
4. Check the checkboxes for all items to be exported, or
choose Select All.
5. Select the USB Export button on the right side of the
screen.
6. Select OK when the export completes. The USB device
can be removed.

 

Yes, that is the way I took your post. There is a difference in a trail versus a route.

 

Final Shot, I do always appreciate your info as it is good stuff. I thought that this feature was a great feature for them to offer when keeping a record of big trips on exactly what roads you rode. We record all of our trips with a journal and create a slide show with music etc. Great way to share adventures. We have done many over the last 30 years. I would like to add our trail to our movie maker presentation. That's why I was testing this feature. Any of your savvy knowledge on how to do this is greatly appreciated! Grant.
