I also have a free Dyno at the dealer I got the bike from. Might take advantage of that once the pipes and fp3 are installed

I haven't yet. But getting a tune would not hurt even if just changing the mufflers...These bikes run lean from the factory, so a tune would help. If you are changing both the mufflers and the air cleaner, or de-catting, a tune is necessary as you have opened up the air flow.

The only thing I have changed so far is the CFR slip ons, so have not done a tune yet.

Thumbs up Vance&Hines Power Dual Exhaust and Monster Oval Catilytic Mufflers

I just finished installing these complete exhaust system on my HD 2014 CVO Ultra Limited and it dosn't required any tuning or dyno. It sounds good and CARB compliant-California.

It will run better with a tune...even if you left the stock pipes on. Now especially though.

I waited until I had the first 1k miles on my bike before I did anything, & then I did a Stage I with a tune. I wanted the engine to be broken in a little before I had anything messed with.

It still needs to be tuned.

If I've typed it once, I bet I've typed it 20 times...

The FIRST thing a man should do when considering making changes is GET A TUNER. It will help a stock bike, and when you change pipes and or air cleaner, you're ready for it.

Can you run without a tuner? Yes.

Will you blow your engine up running without a tuner? Probably not.

Can you expect to get 50,000 miles out of your engine without a tuner? Most likely.

Will it run correctly without a tuner? No.

Dealers and their parts and service departments are a business, in business to sell motorcycles, and motorcycle parts and accessories. They tell you that you can get away without a tuner, because a LOT of guys won't come off the jack for a tuner, and they're afraid they'll lose sales if they tell you to get a tuner.

Changing the air flow without changing the VE tables is not beneficial. These bikes run lean from the factory, adding a more free flowing exhaust makes them run more lean.

Do what you want, I won't criticize, just trying to offer things to think about.

...but there is a reason I won't buy a used bike as my primary ride...

I added the Screamin' Eagle Street Cannons and am happy with the tone and sound of the bike. Plenty of options out there. It's always nice to wait and listen to another bike to get a better idea what suits you.
