Anyway, on to the rest tomorrow. Question - what do I do with the remote power for the amp? I know I'll run the hot from the battery and the ground, but I'm unsure about the remote power.

Also, on the amp itself - where should I set the frequency and the 3 position switch (LP AP HP)? I'm assuming AP. Then does it matter where the dial is set for frequency?

Thanks again for all the help.

Did I mention how much it sucked to remove the pods?

I take the pods out of mine 2-3 times a weekend just 'cause I'm bored lol

Seriously tho, it gets easier with practice. You won't need the remote power lead for the amp if you're using speaker wires (high level input) to the amp. If you're using a "magic Box", or a flash, you'll probably need it. You can use the cig outlet if your bike has one, some use the headlight wire.
LP/HP/AP is a personal taste kind of thing. My best results were HP, with the limit set at about 90Hz. Gain is about 5.5.

Are you mounting inside or outside the pods?

With practice!? I hope to God to never have to do it again -ever!

I'm using the Magic Box so I'll go off the cig lighter as you mention. Thx.

I'm mounting outside the pods - consensus seems to be that it sounds quite a bit better that way. I bought the Cycle Sounds grills so they bolted up fine.

Question - how critical is the ground wire point of attachment? I was thinking of using the cig lighter ground. But, RF is spec'ing #10 wire so....

Default Amp Install

Updated :
Hello everyone! My name is Jermell and I am a newbie to the forum. Well just finished reading the posts for the last three days, lots of good information!
So here’s my summary:
Infinity Kappas 62.9i Speakers (RMS-75 watts and Peak is 225 watts)
Rockford Fosgate PBR300X2 Punch 300-Watt 2-Channel Boosted Rail Amplifier
DSP Line-Level Shifter (Magic Box) for 2014 & Later Harley - (Front Speakers)
Aftermarket Amplifier Power Harness Kit
Aftermarket Speaker/Amplifier Connection Kit (Optional)
Boom upgraded grills

(Have) Speakers 72.00
Amp 152.00
(Ordered) DSP 70.00
(Ordered) Harness 40.00
(Ordered) Speaker Connection Kit 37.00
Boom Grills ??
Total: $371.00

Now what I have learned from the post:

  • When taking off pods the three bolts everyone is having issues with use a 11mm open ended wrench (will purchase open box end wrench 7/16)
  • Mount speakers outside of pod
  • Use Boom upgraded grills (it seems the speakers will work existing stock grill)
  • Settings on amp should be 7-8 gain; HP; Freq-100hz
  • Use heavy duty Velcro (10 lbs.) to mount amp on top of HU

The information that escapes me is:

Boom grills, I called HD to order and they didn’t know what I was talking about. Can someone provide me a part number or the proper name of grill?
How did you tie in the Kappas (screw in terminal)to the pnp in pod, want to avoid splicing wires. Did you cut off the ends of terminals and ran end into speaker screw in terminal?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Where are the outputs on the HU for the speakers?

Here... it's the white & blue wire....

JK... you don't need to try to tap into the speaker wires at the head unit, tap in at the speaker connectors on the pods. You can buy a wiring harness from Cycle Sounds that will plug right in to the stock connectors if you want to make life easy.

I am adding an amp. The amp has connectors for out put and input. So I must be missing a step

You will separate the speaker connectors at the speaker pods. You can buy the wiring harnesses mentioned, or you can cut the connectors off & splice. Either way, the wires that were going from the head unit to the speakers will now go to the amp input. The amp output will now go to the speakers.
