2014 FLHTCU License Plate relocation
#11

The kit uses the backing plate in conjunction with the LED trim plate. The license plate is sandwiched between the two. I guess I never gave obscuring the state text any thought. I've been running variants of this plate kit for well over 100,000 miles. Six years of the 100,000 miles were in club colors, make me more of a profiling target. I have never been pulled over on a motorcycle in almost 12 years.

I used the same plate frame as Bam, except if you remove the factory LED fender light you can mount the curved frame without drilling any holes. I put a writeup here:

Your post are what made me pick the plate mount we used.

I agree with you that once you do the frame, it needs the layback brake light. This thread reminds me I still need to order one before riding weather gets here. Square back just looks out of place now.
For the folks just looking to ditch the clear window from the lens, pick up a later model Road King lens from the swap meet. Should run you $10 to $15 tops.

Rear fender profile with laid-back plate and stock taillight.

How I wired the Plate mount light prior to the LED taillight.

Removed 3M wire taps exposing cut wire insulation. I will cut and extend the wire at this point. I pulled the plug and wires out of the taillight assemble and under the fender tip light to do all the soldering.

Solder the negatives together then shirk tube.

Solder the red positive Kury wire to the blue positiveH.D. wire and shrink tube.

Stock plug with Kury wires soldered and shrink tubed. Much neater than 3M wire taps.

New taillight and fender tip/ license plate frame plugged in.

Rear fender profile with laid-back plate and LED laid-back taillight.

DONE!
