Did not know that, Thanks

Why would a GPS use the bike's speedometer to indicate speed? That makes no sense to me.

For the GPS to calculate speed, there needs to be software within the GPS unit to make that happen. Since there is already a data source for speed on the bike, they just tap into that rather than more software for the NAV. AND....there would be a lot of inaccurate speedometer complaints to the dealers because they're rarely going to be spot on with each other. Now that I think about it, I don't ever recall seeing speed on an in-dash automotive GPS and that's probably the reason right there. I've always seen speed on portable GPS units.

I don't doubt you for a minute and I'm convinced that 99% of the folks on this forum know a lot more than me, but I am curious: How did you come to know this?

Often times get better mileage at higher altitudes as well. Bike leans out...

Mileage for my 2014 SGS was about 37 mpg until I got passed 1000 miles and switch to synthetic oil. Now most times I average 42 mpg. I ride hard most of the time so to get 42 is pretty good for me.

Been getting 43-47 mpg on 14 limited. Two up and run between 70-75 on highway. Keep hand out of throttle...that helps a lot! Have a little less than 10K miles on bike and got better around 1500 miles. I cant complain..

Here's a post on what I was seeing with my speedo, bike gps and external gps. I agree that the speedo and gps are same source. In my case, I think the lines on the speedo are off just a little, the faster you go. At 80 GPS and external GPS, my bike registers about 83. Funny, I did not have to make any changes with my PV as I did on my 13 UC and wife's 14 RK.

So I started looking at the speedometer and we compared side by side while on the road. Sure as ****, he was at 70 and I was at 75. My speedo is off about 7% so I was really getting about 40 mpg. I've heard a lot of speedometers are off on these bikes.
PV2 will calibrate & correct your speedometer for you...
