I like the sound of Harley's, but loud for the sake of loud like straight pipes is just obnoxious. This is the reason the EPA and states keep clamping down the laws on motorcycle exhaust. For every person that thinks their LOUD pipes are cool, there are 20 others thinking "what an *******".

Completely agree. Here's what happened yesterday. Beautiful California day, out working on the front yard, planting a few plants. Kids out playing in the yards, neighbors visiting. You get the picture, quiet residential street, stop sign on each end. A-hole at the end of the block fires up his Harley with straight pipes, blips it a dozen times and then comes ripping down the street. The sound was actually painful to the ears, we all turned to look at this guy and he just looked like he thought he was the coolest guy on the block. Kids were covering their ears and if looks could kill he would have been dead. If I had the power, I would have banned loud pipes on the spot. I've been riding for 40 years, owned a dozen different bikes, from dirt to street and enjoy most of the lifestyle, but there are limits. When we finally start paying fines and they choke off the aftermarket for pipes, we can only blame ourselves. We bitch about fart pipes on the imports and the bass thumpers going down the road and then make ourselves part of the problem.
I had Rinehart true duals and 3 1/2" slip ons on my 1999. Sounded good, really loud and but got annoying after riding all day. Now have Vance & Hines power duals and 4" Rineharts on my 2015 Limited, still loud but not so bad that it's annoying going down the road. But if you want loud it's hard to beat the 3 1/2" Rineharts. I had my 1999 at a dealership once for some work. Went to get it and heard a bike start up. Thought wow that's loud. It was mine.
