More importantly, you should try to avoid running it down to where the fuel light comes on so you won`t put the fuel pump at risk of cavitating and sucking air. Then your fuel pump won`t last too long.

When the fuel light comes on there's about a gallon left so plenty to get you another 40 miles or so. I've ridden down to 10 remaining and it took around 5.5 or so, so still a 1/2 gallon left. I find the gas gauge and miles remaining indicator to be far more accurate on the Limited that it was on the Heritage. Even on the Heritage I never ran out though. Went dry on my Shadow and my VTX once apiece. It sucks. I pushed the Shadow around a 1/4 mile on an incline to the station and about collapsed. When it happened on the VTX I wised up and called wifey!

I find it very time consuming to top off.

Put in 5.9 once.

Don't expect Harley's description of their 6 gallon tank as being a precision measurement. There will be production variants. Only way to know for sure is to run your bike dry, and refill it with a known accurate source. Heck, even fuel pumps can have a little bit of variation.

What I enjoy most about my 6 gallon tank is the number of times I have put more than 5 gallons into it on fill ups. Makes me realize how many times I would have been sweating bullets on my previous 5 gallon tank.

Coming from Oregon into California on my way home to Reno Nevada went 242 miles &
put in 5.6 gallons of gas, getting 43.2 MPG we were running 70 to 75 MPH. The Fuel light
said 12 miles to empty, the last 10 miles I slowed down 65 miles per hour in 6th gear to
get to that fuel stop.
