wasn't the jiffy stand this time
I've a few jiffy stand issues so when I was pulling out a parking lot and felt something strange happen by my left foot, i looked down to see what went wrong. I didn't see anything obvious so pulled right over and checked the stand to see what went wrong. But the stand was in perfect condition.I went home and put the bike up on the JS Jack to check everything out. The bolts holding the stand were all good. It's then that I noticed the freaking rear shifter was gone! I'm an old dirt biker so I never use the heel shifter. The front shifter was loose too. Even tightening the lever as much as I could, I still wasn't happy with how tight it got. I made a call to Rich at Softbrake and have a spacer and a replacement shifter on their way. His are aluminum vs the standard steel.

That one had slid over. I've moved it back and tightened it as much as I'm comfortable with. Even with the bolt on tight, the shift lever can be slid over. Would you use locktite on the shaft too?

Loosen and remove the pinch bolt, put your fingers behind the inboard lever (next to the engine) push the whole assembly toward the footboard.
Slide the shifter all the way on, you can look through the hole and see the recess in the splines where the bolt goes. A couple drops of blue loctite, and thread the pinch bolt back in. Tighten.
The toe shifter is what holds that spline shaft in the proper position.
For around 20 bucks, you can get a chrome cap to cover the rest of the spline shaft if you never use the heel shifter.

I completely disassemble the front end of my shift linkage when the bike is new, and apply never seize to the spline shaft.
