2015 Superior Blue Limited...
I've been a member here for awhile, but I hung out in the Softail section. I did lurk in here for info, as I knew it was a matter of time before I upgraded bikles...
After having a Heritage for 10 years, I decided to move up to a Touring bike. I was wanting comfort/tunes/storage, etc.
So when the '15 Road Glide hit the show room floor, I got a test ride right away. The power impressed the hell out of me. With the toe nail windshield, I had too much wind noise around my ears & could barely hear the radio. I decide to buy one anyways, figuring to add things I wanted to make it a capable tourer. So I sit down with my notebook, and the P & A catalog to start making my list. Surfed a lot of forums. Wellll, got the list done & about crapped. By the time I outfitted it the way I wanted it, it was only $750.00 less than the msrp of an Ultra limited. Most value for my hard earned money won out...
So, I picked up up my new Ultra Friday afternoon. Yesterday put 430 miles it. I am impressed right out of the box. It's not fair to compare it to my Heritage, which I had set up pretty comfy, but WOW.
Aside from more power, I feel it handles better out on the open road. It was pretty windy yesterday, but this new bike handled it with ease. I had no problem hearing the stereo at speeds up to 75-80 mph at half volume. The heated hand grips actually blistered my right hand, thru a thin glove, at setting 2. Too much time in 1 spot, I guess. The hyd. clutch is stiffer than my Heritage with an AMP clutch assist (I lost 2 fingers & half my thumb in an industial accident years ago...) I was assured it would feel better after my 1000 service.
After yesterday's ride, I have only 3 things to change out of the box to make this bike better for me....
Different mirrors...I need up & out to see around my wide body. Bigger heads than the stockers. I had some Kuryakyns on my Heritage & loved the view.
Longer brake pedal. Seems further back than my Heritage, so I need to move my foot out, up & over to use the pedal.
I thought the stock 10" windshield was quite adequate, and had no problems seeing over it (I'm 5'8"), but it seemed a little flimsy. Thanks to this forum, I'll be getting a recurve for it this spring. Leaning towards the Freedom Shield....
Obviously, after my 1000 mile service next spring, I'm going to do do a Stage 1, tuner, exhaust. I bought some used CFR's from a friend before I even had the bike, but am thinking real hard about a Fuel Moto package. As an added bonus, they are only about 1 1/2 hours from me....
So, all that being said...This bike ROCKS! The weather here is going to turn in a hurry, so today I'm going to give it a quick cleaning & probably call it a season. Just have to pick up a storage cover...
