'14 FLHTCU, only 1600mi on the bike.

Going down the road the other day the cruise kicked off in 6th gear. It wouldn't reset. Noticed the 6th gear indicator was blank. Pulled the clutch, downshifted, shifted back to 6th and the cruise engaged.

100mi later cruise quit working in 6th even pulling clutch, 5th started to get intermittent.

Another 100mi and started doing it in 4th gear as well. Finally pulled into a dealership. Tech says clutch switch inside the left controls.

Bike has no other drive ability issues other than infotainment system has a lot of problems acting up (more so than the normal problems).

Anyone heard of this? My understanding was that the gear shift indicator was just a computer calculation.

 

Yeah, it is, but if that switch is bad, it's sending signals to the ECM that is messing it up. Did you have them fix it?

 

They had to order a part.

Having a lot of issues with the bike. Simultaneous to the gear indication, radio "home" button on the joystick started cycling through all inputs when you press it. Fader quit working. FM and WB presets show up in my Media page so that when I'm listening to music via USB and move the right joystick for menu control, it takes me to a radio preset instead. Dark screen on startup shows up more frequently than normal now.

With all that acting funny in addition to the gear indication, wondering if maybe the whole left control is bad, something in the radio controls shorting out the computer.

 

The switches are not independent switches as in previous years. They are now a one piece module so maybe your having problems with a bad Left Hand Control Module.

 

Starting to think that's the case. Riding home from work today and the radio just randomly started switching through inputs on its own.

 

Mine was bad ( switch pack), before a month old. $250 and .2 labor. All covered by warranty..... be aware your bike may be able to start in gear too.

 

My '14 SGS had cruise and gear indicator go nonop too. They replaced that switch and it was resolved.

 

That's becoming a semi-recurring thing. You guys aren't the first people to post up about this problem.

 

Mine had the same issue, dealer had to replace switch pack. Mine would show the gear that it was in then the number would dissapear from the display. If I pulled the clutch in the number would reappear then shortly it would dissapear again.

 

I guess it's what I am seeing as well then, except mine will actually start working again after some random amount of time.
