Default Do I need AC and download?

2014 SGS with 4" Rinehart pipes. Everything else on motor is standard. During 1K service, tech explained a need for the additional to the tune of $700. Are they really needed?

For these bikes, it's advertised by sales that added pipes don't necessarily require a download. Now that the bike is purchased, the story changes a bit.

Don't mind spending money if it's worth it, but also don't want to be taken advantage of.

With just pipes no.add a.c. and you will want a tune.I recommend the power vision. Fuel motob had a bunch of tunes that will get you real close so an expensive trip to the dyno isn't necessary.

Need, no. Desired, yes. I wouldn't opt for the dealer doing this for $700. You can get a nice AC and a PV2 for that or less. Much better to go that route. I'd consider adding headers too to get rid of the cat and improve the exhaust flow.

American custom has decatted stockers for a couple hundred bucks with your stock header.

Appreciate the responses. I kind of figured the price was too high. I'll do a search through the forum to see if I can install the powervision myself. I have no clue, but suspect it's not hard from the way you're talking.

Alright - found a nice sticky on the subject. Power vision = $500 leaving a bit for the A/C. I see your point on going this route instead of an HD download.

Also, from reading I see that you can disconnect the PV2 after working the tune. I don't really want anything mounted on the bar which they seem to showcase a bit. If I'm wrong, let me know please.

You are not wrong. The PV2 does not need to stay mounted.

If you order the PV2 from Fuel Moto, you get lifetime map support and an option to purchase an AC at a reduced price.

You may want to mount it just to do a couple of autotunes. Autotunes helped when I had my stage 1 setup. Definitely improved how the engine ran. It's an easy install and easy to remove once your final map is loaded.

As far as decatting the stock header. Not sure how much $s matter but I'd spend the extra $200 (total $400) for the FM 2-1-2 ceramic header. Quality product and uses the stock heat shields so you maintain the stock look.

After learning to tune with the PV, I liked it so much it stays on the bars showing me my ET,MPG,B+ and MAP.(many other guages available) at all times. Plus logging data just to see whats going on once in a while.
P.S. S&S improved the mountings for the Power Tune Duals. Looks and sounds like true duals with small hidden cross over that performs like a 2-1-2
