Guess I need to check the manual because the tire says 41 Front and 42 Rear on my SG. Doubt Harley would recommend otherwise but from responses it appears that is exactly what they are doing. Of course that could be just responses from Ultra owners which have larger sidewalls so can run a bit lower pressure.
The pressures on the tire itself is for maximum load for the tire rating. The recommended pressure by HD is on the left downtube of the frame. Probably in the manual also.
I ran 36 & 40 on my SGS (recommended). Traded at 18,000 miles with 4/32" frt and 5/32" rear. The OEM Flops wore like they were made of steel but handled well! I was surprised....

On most bikes I run what the manual lists for 1-up, maybe 1-2 pounds lower. I only ride solo and run 2 under 34/38 on my RK. 33/37 would likely give better handling and ride, plus not wear the center of the rear out so much.
I was running 40/36 per the manual and when I took it in for the 1000K the dealer recommended running 38 on the front tire if riding a lot of 2-up (which I do), so that's what I'm running now.
I have a 2014 Limited. I run 38 rear and 36 front when I'm riding solo. When I have the wife on the back I run the rear tire up to 40 and leave the front at 36. It's just what feels right to me.
