‘Wrinkle Bob’ Is Perfect for People Who Hate Washing Their Bike

Thunderbike Harley-Davidson Fat Bob Wrinkled Bob

Wrinkle-style powder coating makes this military-esque Fat Bob look like it was sprayed with bedliner.

Basically, there are two kinds of motorcyclists in this world. Some who love detailing their bikes, so every bit of bling sparkles just like it did when it rolled out of the factory. But there are others who find the whole process of washing and waxing tedious, and just see it as a time suck which wastes valuable riding time. Like so many other personality traits, one isn’t better than the other, they’re just different. Fat Bob Harleys, like the one above, is a really good example of that.

Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I should probably admit that I have never taken much joy in washing or waxing any of my vehicles, be they of the four- or two-wheeled variety. While I have many positive associations with the smell of Mother’s California Gold, I’ve never found any meditative  peace in applying it. I put it on to protect the paint. That’s it.

So I kind of dig the treatment the folks over at Germany’s Thunderbike gave to this Dyna Fat Bob. The powder coat given to all the previously shiny bits makes it look like it’s been sprayed with bedliner, and it goes perfectly with the olive-drab paint on the tank and rear fender. All told, this baby is just a few choice accessories away from looking like a modern cousin of the legendary WLA. Just mount set of leather saddlebags, a rifle scabbard, and a shovel, and you’d basically be there!

Along with the flat paint, Thunderbike added a host of its in-house bits to the package, including an aluminum tank, a custom seat, and a new rear fender.

There’s also an air ride kit that allows for up to four inches of adjustment, along with a set of beefy looking forward controls. For better airflow, there’s a Heavy Breather kit from Screaming Eagle, which given the military feel of the machine, almost looks like some kind of cannon here.

The wheels are headlight are stock, but the wizards at Thunderbike also added a custom exhaust, handlebar, and triple tree kit. I particularly dig the — literally — sharp-looking indicators that are mounted just underneath the brake and clutch levers. All told, there’s a lot of detail here, even if none of it happens to sparkle.

So what do you think about this custom Fat Bob? Do you like the matte paint and powder coat combo? Or is blink your thing? There’s no wrong answer, so shoot me a PM and let me know what you think. Of course, you’d like to see your bike on the front page of HDForums, especially make sure to hit me up. I’m always looking for the cool bikes to profile, and love to put on spotlight on the rides our members rock!
