What's Going On This Weekend: September 21-22

Looking for something to do this weekend? We’ve found motorcycle events from all over to keep you busy.

Here at H-D Forums, we’ve got readers from all around the country – and all around the globe. For us, there’s nothing better than hanging out with other Harley riders, especially if it’s for a good cause. That’s why we’ve assembled a list of events happening all over the place this weekend, September 21 and 22.

Power Surge 2019 – Tasmania

Power Surge 2019

Let’s start with something exotic – an event from the Australian island of Tasmania. The event is called Power Surge 2019, and is hosted by Richardson’s Harley-Davidson, Tasmania’s only H-D dealer.

According to The Examiner, Power Surge started out several years back a dyno competition. Since then, it’s grown into a large-scale test of brawn, with a burnout competition, a hammer-throwing competition, an arm wrestling competition, and even an eating competition.

It’s all for a great cause, too. Each year, the event aims to earn $50,000 for Give Me Five For Kids, a charity that raises money for children’s hospitals all around Australia. Power Surge 2019 takes place this Saturday, September 21.

2nd Annual Ride for the Children – Los Angeles, California

2nd Annual Ride for the Children

We’ve got a ton of readers in Los Angeles. If you’re one of them, and you’re looking for something to do this weekend, we’ve got you covered. The 2nd Annual Ride for the Children is sponsored by Glendale Harley-Davidson and Bartel’s Harley-Davidson, and takes place on Sunday, September 22.

The two dealerships, along with several other motorcycle-related sponsors, are riding from Marina Del Ray to Agoura Hills to raise money for Olive Crest, a charity benefiting abused and neglected children. Registration costs $35 per person, and you can create a profile on the event website to have friends and family members sponsor your ride to raise addition money for the charity.

The grand marshals of the event are motorcycle-riding actors Lorenzo Lamas and Perry King, motorcycle racer Dave Ekins, and rock star Sean McNabb. Participants will be treated to a barbecue lunch and a live rock concert by Aces & Eights.

Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally 50th Anniversary – Ruidoso, New Mexico

Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally 50th Anniversary

Working our way east, we’ve got a massive motorcycle rally in New Mexico that’s celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. According to KCBD, the event started in 1969 as Aspencade, growing each year and eventually taking on its current name.

Now, the event draws roughly 20,000 motorcyclists each year to the Sierra Nevadas. The five-day event actually started on September 18, but it’s supposed to ramp up considerably this weekend. In addition to the usual food and parts vendors, Saturday night will bring a concert by the all-female AC/DC tribute band Whole Lotta Rosies.

The event has partnered up with motorcycle charity Biker’s Assistance Group, Inc. The charity aims to help riders who have been injured by distracted drivers, as well as raise awareness and education for both car drivers and motorcyclists alike about sharing the road.

Hills-N-Hollers Hog Rally – Johnson City, Tennessee

What's Going On This Weekend: September 21-22

Roughly 2,000 riders are expected to show up to Johnson City, Tennessee for the Hills-N-Hollers Hog Rally. This isn’t an annual event; instead, it’s one of nine communities that were chosen to host rallies to get people out riding and socializing around the country, according to WCYB.

The event started on September 18, but runs until September 21. Each day has tons of activities planned, including sightseeing rides, skills tests, and Harley-Davidson demos. If you’re looking to check out the new 2020 Harley-Davidsons and explore some gorgeous, twisty Tennessee backroads, now’s your chance.

Additional fun comes in the way of a tattoo contest and a burnout competition, as well as food trucks, vendors, and live music. Perusing the schedule, it looks to be an action-packed, fun event.

Oktober Bike Fest – Crestview, Florida

Oktober Bike Fest

Beer, brats, and bikes – what’s not to love? This Saturday, September 21, the Oktober Bike Fest is happening at Hub City Smokehouse and Grill in Crestview, Florida. Wear your best lederhosen.

Piggybacking on the event, several local motorcycle clubs are partnering up for Bikers Against Child Abuse, a benefit run. Main Street will be lined with motorcycles, while the sounds of authentic Bavarian music fill the air. The Crestview Bulletin urges that it’s not just a motorcycle event; there will be something for everyone.

If you’re local and new to motorcycling, you should head down to check it out. That’s not just because of the delicious food, but Harley-Davidson will also be there with their JUMPSTART experience, a stationary motorcycle that can give anyone a taste of the freedom provided by riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
