Throwback Thursday – Ad Girls

Do women on motorcycles or in motorcycle advertising make you want to buy a motorcycle? We enjoy looking at the images, the persona that advertising creates but I don’t want to buy a brand of one bike over another because of a pretty girl in the picture.The thing is girls on motorcycles have been selling bikes since there were bikes to sell.

Pin up posters, swim suits, some companies even ran topless advertisements. That brings us back to the original thought. Do women on motorcycles sell motorcycles? The answer is yes – but only if you get people thinking about the two early in life.

Young adolescent men are the targets of ads like the one above. It is an aspirational advertisement. The man has what you want. Beautiful women, a motorcycle, and probably more. in this case it is a BSA but every manufacturer thinks similarly. An advertisers dream is to create legions of fans before they ever own a motorcycle, to instill a loyalty to an idea, and then to the product. If the product meets expectations you have an even bigger win.
