Harley-Davidson-Man-AdvertisementMy how times have changed and yet remain the same. Welcome to Throwback Ad where we delve into vintage Harley-Davidson advertising. The year was 1975, the countries bi-centennial was a year away, the economy was improving and freedom reigned.

This ad picks up on all of that and speaks directly to want it means to be a man. The great part is it challenges your manhood and questions whether you are worthy to own a Harley Davidson. That you have confidence, not arrogance, that you know how to ride, and that you maintain your machine. In many circles those are fighting words and a wrestling match would ensue. Kudos to HD for trying to sell something by questioning every mans.. well manhood.

The one thing we really like is that HD makes the differentiation of confidence versus arrogance. It’s a nice subtle touch to keep the ad very positive while selling an image.

What do you think of the advertisement? Would it work in today’s world?
