One man proves that it’s possible to put a nice Harley in your garage for well under $10,000 — or under $2,000!

Shadetree Surgeon is a YouTube channel that we’ve stumbled onto recently. Frankly, we feel pretty dumb that it took us this long to find it. It’s rapidly becoming one of our favorite sources of Harley-related entertainment.

Just a quick warning before we go any further — some of the language used in the videos is a little on the rough side. You’re a biker, you can handle it. Just don’t blast it over the Bluetooth at work and you should be fine.

In this video, Shadetree Surgeon visits his local Harley-Davidson dealership to check out some used bikes on sale. These bikes were taken in on trade, and are being sold as-is at bargain prices. The two bikes he’s focusing on are an Ultra Limited and a Sportster.

As he explains, “I just want to show my audience that it’s attainable to get on two wheels.” He’s not kidding. The 2014 Ultra Limited has a price of just $8,995 — pretty dang cheap for a bike that cost well over $30,000 new.

Sure, that’s a lot of miles for a bike, but Shadetree Surgeon makes a good point. He calls these “heirloom engines,” engines worth rebuilding and riding for another 100,000 miles.

Shadetree Surgeon really loves riding this bike. He says it’s comfortable and it just eats up miles. This bike still has plenty of life left in it. It’s loaded with awesome touring features, like the lower fairing and infotainment system. It’ll make a great bike for someone.

The Sportster he rode is a 2007 XL1200C with 49,000 miles, for just $1,995! That’s right-you can own a recent Sportster for less than two grand! We’re not afraid of high-mileage Sportsters here on H-D Forumsone of our project bikes is a 2000 Sportster with over 30,000 miles that runs great and doesn’t leak a drop of oil.

Shadetree Surgeon is similarly impressed with the Sportster, proclaiming it “a great first bike for somebody.” He’s been looking for a Sportster project bike, and it takes every bit of willpower he has not to bring it home for himself.

To close out the video, he expresses a desire to get more people interested in motorcycling as a hobby. By showing that it can be affordable, he’s certainly working towards that goal. In his words, “Every ass that gets put in a seat is one more of us, and one less of them!”
