The FXR Super Glide II was a special bike that was built at a very important time in Harley-Davidson’s history. Reportedly considered an “engineer’s bike” among people at the company, the FXR came at time when Harley-Davidson’s reputation was recovering. Designed in part by Erik Buell, it was created as a more aggressive rider’s bike with a powerful rubber-mounted V-Twin, a lighter frame, and a 5-speed transmission. It’s still considered one of the best-handling motorcycles Harley-Davidson ever built.

With a background like that, it’s surprising it took Chip Kastelnik and his team at San Diego Customs to give one the attention it deserves.

In order to do this one right, the 1991 FXRS was completely broken down and built back up. Specifics are scarce, but it was given a host of performance upgrades, including engine and driveline upgrades. As for the paint, the dude Pete “Hot Dog” Finlan was summoned. The purdy pint combined flakes, candy colors, gold leaf, machine turning, and pinstriping.
