1946 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead

After a Long Journey & Handful of Owners, This Gorgeous 1946 Knucklehead is Finally Finished

We’ve all had our labors of love in life. And if you’re reading this, chances are a Harley-Davidson was at least one of them. The original owner of this 1946 Knucklehead certainly saw his Harley that way. Thus, he began to slowly restore it over 20 years ago. Unfortunately, he passed away just a couple of years later.

The rebuilt engine and much of the bike stayed with the wife of the original owner, but the sheet metal resided in storage. Payments on that storage unit went delinquent and subsequently, the parts were sold. Once the original owner’s wife decided to move to Florida around five years ago, she began to think about selling what was left.

And she did. But after two years the Knucklehead sat untouched, and the new owner decided to sell it to his friend, the current owner. But instead of letting it continue to collect dust, the new owner took the classic Harley to Larry Gee in North Carolina for a full restoration. They managed to retain/reuse 90% of the original parts, with a set of bobbed fenders added for effect.

The engine and transmission were checked out and refreshed by Ben’s V-Twin, also of North Carolina. With only 75 break in miles, the old Knucklehead is ready to make up for years of sitting still. And after finally receiving the love it so deserved, the old Harley was put up for sale again. We caught up with the beautiful bike on eBay, where bids recently topped $28,000. Let’s hope the new owner gives it lots of throttle open time on the highway. Because she sure deserves it.
