Infamous Scottish Road Gets Revamped for ‘Harley-Davidson in the City’
Annual pilgrimage to July event promises to be a much smoother ride this year.
Potholes are the enemy of every motorist. No matter how many wheels your ride of choice has. And no matter how much we beg, plead, and threaten our local constabularies, road work never happens overnight. So, any plan to repave is worth celebrating, especially when that action is spurred by an upcoming Harley event, which, according to The Courier, is exactly what’s happening to a stretch of Scottish road between the cities of Dundee and Aberdeen in preparation for “Harley-Davidson in the City,” taking place July 13-15.
Apparently, bikers have complained for some time about the A90’s pothole-laden bits. Specifically, a three-mile section between the A935 and B966 turnoffs. And with an upcoming pilgrimage to Harley-Davidson cofounder William C. Davidson‘s former family home coming up in July, that just wasn’t going to fly. So, local politician Liam Kerr pleaded his case to the transportation secretary. And, amazingly enough, they listened.
“Transport Scotland have responded to my calls for significant maintenance works along this section of the A90,” Kerr told The Courier. “And it’s going to be just in time for the Harley-Davidson in the City event, which is one of the biggest annual events in Brechin and indeed Angus. I would hate for motorcycle enthusiasts to visit the area and be struck at how potentially dangerous the main road is for them. I’d like to thank the agency and transport secretary for promptly looking into the problem.”
Just another (rare) example of your government in action. And music to the ears of those Harley faithful looking to make the trek to the restored cottage once owned by the grandparents of the men who went on to create one of America’s most iconic brands after they emigrated to the U.S. in the 19th century.
This year’s Harley-Davidson in the City pilgrimage takes place July 13-15. You can find more information on the event here.
