Peter Fonda’s 2003 Harley-Davidson VRSCA is Up For Sale

The Wild Angels and Easy Rider star, Peter Fonda had a soft corner for motorcycles, and now you can own one of his former rides.

Peter Fonda’s work was immensely influenced by automobiles, and the actor had a soft corner for motorcycles. The Wild Angels and Easy Rider star owned several bikes throughout his lifetime, and one of his former possessions is now up for sale. The bike in question is a Harley-Davidson V-Rod, and this particular example is an anniversary edition.

The bike is listed on Mecum Auctions’ official website and flaunts unique styling cues. This V-Rod was built in 2003 when the Milwaukee-based bike manufacturer celebrated its 100th anniversary. The motorcycle’s exclusive styling is courtesy of Harley’s Anniversary Edition treatment. This 2003 Harley Davidson VRSCA model gets exclusive trim and badging.

There is no arguing that Harley’s lineage deserves to be celebrated as the company persevered through some of the most challenging eras in the past century. Harley’s resilience helped the company survive the Great Depression, during which AMA Sanctioned Class C racing was established and offered a competitive platform for Harley Davidson riders.

The Harley Davidson V-Rod was also a very important milestone for the bike manufacturer. As Mecum Auctions points out, the former Senior Vice President & Chief Styling Officer of Harley-Davidson revealed that the model was created to “maintain a distinct Harley-Davidson image and create a radically new bike.” He further added, “We knew we wanted this vehicle to be low and long … like a dragster. … We wanted it to look aggressive standing still.”

Like many anniversary editions, the motorcycle did not receive any mechanical upgrades. The odometer of Peter Fonda’s VRSCA currently reflects just over 6700 miles and the auction website reports that the bike was recently serviced. The motorcycle is powered by a 1150cc liquid-cooled 60-degree V-twin motor which comes mated to a lustrous 2-1-2 exhaust system.

Each cylinder of the powerplant gets four valves, and the motor itself is encased inside a hydroformed perimeter frame. The front-end of this VRSCA anniversary edition is dominated by the accentuated radiator and air intakes. The bodywork itself gets an anodized aluminum finish. The motorcycle also features a 38-degree rake and rides on solid disc rims, which are wrapped in new OEM tires.
